NARAL Pro-Choice Montana and its U of M Students for Choice chapter are excited to announce the continuation of their successful outreach event: Voices, Power, Politics.
Michelle Goldberg, a journalist and author based in Brooklyn, New York, will be visiting the University of Montana in Missoula on Thursday, March 11 to speak about reproductive rights and how the rise of right-wing extremism has had a profound impact on women’s human rights.
Michelle Goldberg's most recent book, "The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power and the Future of the World," was published in April and won last year's J. Anthony Lukas Work in Progress Award. "The Means of Reproduction" travels through four continents, examining issues like abortion, female circumcision, and Asia's missing girls to show how the battle over women's bodies has been globalized, and how the United States has, depending on who is in power, alternately advanced and impeded women's rights worldwide.
Goldberg is also the author of The New York Times bestseller "Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism." She is a columnist for The Daily Beast and a senior correspondent for The American Prospect. Her work has appeared in The New Republic, The Nation, Glamour, Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times and many other publications.

Stop Stupak! Day of Action - Dec 2nd
If the Stupak-Pitts amendment passed by the House of Representatives becomes law, women could lose the right to use their own personal, private funds to purchase an insurance plan with abortion coverage in the new health system.
It's effectively an abortion-coverage ban, and we must ensure the Senate defeats it.
The Senate health-care bill currently does not include the extreme Stupak-Pitts abortion-coverage ban language, but anti-choice senators, like Sen. Orrin Hatch, are trying to insert it, and Rep. Stupak from Michigan is backing them up: "We are in contact with senators to make sure our language holds. The other side is playing with fire."
What's can I do in Montana?
Go to a Honk and Wave! - Both of these are on Dec 2.
- Missoula- Meet at Planned Parenthood (219 E Main St.) at 3:30, walk over to Higgins St. Bridge honk and wave goes from 3:30-4:30pm. Back to PP afterward for refreshments.
- Bozeman- Meet at the "Ask Us Desk" in the SUB building on MSU campus at 3:30pm and activists will walk over to the intersection or just meet at intersection of 11th and Main at 3:30. Honk & Wave goes from 3:30 to 4:30pm. Afterward everyone will walk over to Rockford Coffee for refreshments.
Contact your Senator! - Sen. Max Baucus and Sen. Jon Tester are both pro-choice. Give them a call or send an email showing that you support their pro-choice values. Let them know Montanans care about reproductive rights and don't want to see women's health jeopardized because of anti-choice politics!
