Talking Points:
Please use these talking points to show Montanans that pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion—our movement is much more than that. We must respond to anti-choice extremists with a positive, truthful message—to be pro-choice is to be pro-child, pro-woman, pro-faith, and pro-family.
It means supporting affordable contraception in order to prevent unintended pregnancies and to allow women and families to plan whether and when to have a child. It means advocating for affordable reproductive health services in order to access prenatal care, STI testing and treatment, and breast & cervical cancer screening.
This includes advocating for the protection of Title X and Medicaid funding. This funding ensures that all women have access to reproductive healthcare and pregnancy prevention.
It means working to ensure that every student is given accurate and comprehensive information about sexuality, contraception, disease prevention and responsible decision-making.
It means supporting funding for domestic and sexual violence intervention programs and ensuring that victims of sexual violence have access to emergency contraception.
To be pro-choice means supporting the right to decide whether, when and with whom you have sex.
It means valuing the right to privacy, dignity, and self-determination.
Reproductive health decisions are personal decisions that impact every person at some point in their lives. These decisions are best left to the individual, not to politicians.
Being pro-choice means recognizing that each individual has the integrity, intelligence and judgment to make and take responsibility for personal decisions – including a decision to carry a pregnancy to term, to raise a child, to give a child up for adoption, or to choose an abortion.
To be pro-choice is about far more than the right to have an abortion. It is about caring for the health of our youth, our women, and Montana families. The pro-choice movement is a leader in advocating for access to reproductive health care, comprehensive sex education, medical privacy, contraceptive coverage, and the right to make decisions about your reproductive health, including the right to a safe, legal abortion.
