Suspected Kalispell Vandal Has Ties to Crisis Pregnancy Centers

In October of last year, NARAL Pro-Choice Montana Foundation released an investigative report on crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs), which discussed, among other things, the dangerous connections CPCs have with extreme anti-choice groups. We are deeply saddened by the vandalism at Susan Cahill’s family practice in Kalispell and are equally distraught by the recent knowledge of the suspect’s connections to the local CPC network—Hope Pregnancy Ministries. The Montana Human Rights Network uncovered the fact that the suspect’s mother is a board member at Hope Pregnancy Ministries, which administers Clear Choice Clinic, a crisis pregnancy center in Kalispell.

We are reminded, once again, that CPCs have dangerous connections to extreme, sometimes violent, anti-choice groups. The anti-choice movement created CPCs shortly after the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case of 1973, as part of a political strategy to re-frame the debate over abortion. Since their inception, CPCs have always followed the same business model: presenting themselves as comprehensive health centers but substituting legitimate pregnancy-related information with lies and intimidation. We fear that the latest act of violence and intimidation in Kalispell is another example of these dangerous connections.

We stand with Susan Cahill, All Families Healthcare, and all of the Kalispell community members who depended on the clinic for healthcare. Everyone has the right to healthcare and to employment without fear of intimidation and violence. NARAL Pro-Choice Montana and our allies also stand committed to exposing crisis pregnancy centers’ harmful and deceptive practices.
